JOGGING

GOAL

My goal is to run 6.8km, from my house to my Grandma's and back, in 30 minutes. Now, this is something I want to build up to, so initially I will start with smaller runs, through Highbury Park                   my Grandma's                 home. Normally in twiga running club,  I would run 5k in 20-25 minutes, so I hoping over the course of 4-weeks, I will be able to run almost 7km in under 30 minutes. Endurance is mandatory for football, so this will benefit me in the new school term, as it will develop my stamina and muscular endurance.

As my goal focuses on cardiovascular endurance, in a specific amount of time, I watched this video on building cardiovascular endurance, as a basis for improvements and techniques I should focus on whilst running.

Factors to Consider

What route will I take?

For the first 2 weeks, I will go through Highbury Park, in order to build on my cardiovascular endurance at a quick pace, as the route is shorter. If I am finding it too easy, I will extend the route within the park. E.g, I could go around the park twice, or use the fields, (this would also add another terrain, and would build muscle strength in my calves and quads). For the last two weeks, I will start going through Cannon Hill Park, in order to reach my goal, I need to become familiar with the distance and the terrain, so I can improve every run. One way I could manage my time, would be to see my music playlist to a maximum number of songs that won't go over 30 minutes, as I can't stop to adjust my playlist during the run.

What am I wearing?

Depending on the weather, I will determine whether I should wear a skin underneath my running top, or not. I don't have a running jacket with me, and I would never run in a jumper, so running in leggings and a thermal under my top will satisfy colder temperature, (0 - 15°C). Regarding warmer weather, I will run without a thermal, in a running top and running shorts, (15°C +). For all my runs, I will wear my trainers, and tie my hair back.

What is the weather doing?

Since arriving back in the UK, the weather has increased from an average of 10°C - 20°C. It used to reach temperatures just above 0°C, and below 10°C, however, towards the middle of April, it became sunnier and much warmer. I am a bit odd, as I love running in the rain, so on rainy days, I will definitely wear a thermal, and leggings.

Have I eaten anything?

As I tend to jog in the afternoon, I would have eaten lunch a couple of hours before my run. I am a very snacky person, however, much of my snacks are fruit and granola bars, (unless I am having tea and biscuits), so normally these snacks don't affect my run. Nevertheless, I will aim to eat healthy snacks before my run, and drink lots of water throughout the day.
